Maselec MTC-1x and Prism Sound Lyra 2 Review

Maselec and Prism Sound are two of the most upper echelon companies in professional audio. These two companies offer some of the best made and most revered products in audio engineering. We are thrilled to own the Maselec MTC-1x Mastering Transfer Console and Prism Sound Lyra 2 at Continuum. Maselec MTC-1x Mastering Transfer Console The MTC-1x can be summed up as – the best mastering transfer console in existence (this is, of course, subjective – but does come with years of buying and selling gear before finally pulling the trigger on the MTC). Some might argue that others on the market such as the Dangerous Liaison, the discontinued Manley Backbone, the customizable Crookwood system (and others) compare directly with or beat out the Maselec regarding function at different prices points. At Continuum, we proudly use the Maselec and were beyond thrilled to sell others we have owned to afford this badass unit. Each large metal knob serves one purpose. From […]

VintageMaker Custom Analog Summing Mixer Review

Analog summing – what is it, is it needed, should you invest the cash into a rig? In a nutshell, analog summing offers the analog console sound in a small rack-mount format without the high cost, maintenance, or footprint of a full-size analog console. Is it needed – no. Will you fall in love with it the second you hear it – yes. Should you invest the coin to get an analog summing mixer – not if you, have low-end converters. Yes, if you have good converters and want all the benefits of analog processing across the entire production, mix, or stem mastering session. We used a bunch of summing boxes including SSL, Dangerous, Burl, and more. We gave Paul’s (owner of Vintage Maker) Neumann summing mixer a shot to see how it sounds. This thing is a godsend for mixes! Lush and extensive, all the depth you could ask for, has an FX send/Return options, plus busses! Paul is […]

Whether mixing ITB (in the box) or hybrid (mixing plugins plus analog hardware), the choice of EQ always matters. No two mixing or mastering EQs are equal in function. The wise approach is best to understand the tools of the trade, before randomly grabbing whatever plugin EQ which was used yesterday during the mixing process. Education is the initial key to evolution. Now, let’s talk EDM mixing and mastering EQ tips (with Mäag Audio). Rather than diving into all the different kinds of EQs and what the various curves can do, it would be best to start with the most used EQ curves which are wide bell curves and shelves. There is no shortage of wideband and shelve EQs on the market. What there is a shortage of are mixing and mastering EQs which are […]

In 2017 the lines from the past have blurred. There no longer exists separation in the multiple realms of the music production, creation, and finalization processes known as mastering. Once upon a time, just a decades ago, recording artists would have to save up a pretty penny just to get time in a studio. The recording studio process started with pre-production which eventually manifested into a tangible product know as a master. Fast forward the clock just about ten […]
